Ahh yes! The Mattapeno! For an expert-level grow, make sure to put on your big boy pants if you want to grow this one right. The unique, very white foliage means the plant is delicate and sensitive to light spectrums. You need to feed this one with mild fertilizer consistently, as it is also sensitive to excessive or harsh fertilizers. This is our first year with this variety. Yields are very low but probably worth overwintering as some have had success with production in second-year status. It tastes like a classical Jalapeno, however, the stripes are something to behold.

This will be the first time I grow this very hot topic pepper. Very known in the pepper community. A very unique Jalapeño variety! Matt from Matt’s Peppers was working in a local nursery a few years back when he discovered this strange variant in a huge tray of Jalapeño seedlings. He grew it out and saved the seeds then shared it with the world. Gardeners all over the world are now growing the Mattapeño and even crossing it with other varieties.

The Mattapeño is famous for it’s White variegated foliage and white/green striped pods. I will provide more details as I grow this variety for 2023.
